The Authority has embarked on upgrading the Ejinja-Bumala road, a distance of 37 kilometres. The road that is in Busia &Kakamega counties is to be upgraded into a two lane single carriageway of bitumen standards.

 

 

The project which has been funded by the Government of Kenya through Development Vote at a cost of Kshs.1.73 billion was officially commissioned by Roads Minister Hon. Franklin Bett E.G.H, M.P on the 19th December, 2011.

Speaking after unveiling the plaque to mark the beginning of constructions works of the project, the minister said the Government is keen on improving the road network throughout the country since its one of the key areas contributing to the realization Vision 2030.

“Upgrading of Ejinja-Bumala road will not only improve transportation of produce between Butula and Bumala trading Centres but also improve the status of these centres.” said Bett.

He urged residents living along the project route to increase their farm produce so as to enhance economic growth in the area and improve their livelihood.

The starts at the junction of Mumias - Busia Road (C31) approximately 1 Km from Ejinja trading centre, runs in a south westerly direction through Butula trading centre and ends at Bumala trading centre along the Kisumu -Busia  Road (B1). The intermediate trading centres are Buhuyi (Ogalo), Tingolo, Bulemia, Bar Ober, Busiada and Murumba.
