MOMBASA - MARIAKANI HIGHWAY PROJECT
LOT I: MOMBASA – KWA JOMVU SECTION
GENERAL PROCUREMENT NOTICES (GRN) NO KENHA/995/2015
The Government of Kenya has received a loan from the African Development Fund (African Development Bank Group) to finance the Mombasa – Mariakani (A109) Highway Project, Lot 1: Mombasa – Kwa Jomvu (11.3Km) section.
Development objectives of the project are to increase trade and regional integration and to contribute to the GOK’s social and economic development and poverty reduction efforts by providing a more efficient and effective transport system. The objective of the project is to improve transport of import and export goods and passengers traffic along the Northern Corridor. The project will also contribute towards restoring the road network and improving economic and social welfare of people living in urban, peri-urban and rural areas along the project road.
The project includes the following components:
1. Civil Works for:
Dualling of Mombasa – Mariakani Lot 1: Mombasa – Kwa Jomvu road including construction of drainage structures, grade separated junctions, pedestrian foot bridges across the road, road safety features, walkways, street lightings, environmental and social mitigation measures. It will also include the maintenance of the road for five years following the completion of the work.
2. Consulting Services for:
(i) Construction supervision services for the road civil works described above – Please note that the procurement of this service has already started through Advance Contracting.
(ii) Impact assessment of investments in the road sub-sector;
(iii) Consultancy Design of Marua – Nanyuki – Lewa road (150km);
(iv) Project technical audit;
(v) Preparation of gender mainstreaming guideline in the road sub-sector;
(vi) Maintenance contracts planning and management;
(vii) HIV/AIDS, gender, road safety awareness and sensitization, and monitoring of ESMP; and
(viii) Vocational training of unemployed youth.
The procurement of civil works will be carried out under International Competitive Bidding with post qualification of contractors in accordance with the AfDB Rules of Procedure for the Procurement of Goods and Works. The acquisition of the services of Consultants will follow the Bank's Rules of Procedure for the Use of Consultants.
Bidding documents for procurement of civil works and Request for Proposals for consultancy services are expected to be available in April 2015.
