EXCITING CAREER OPPORTUNITY – DIRECTOR GENERAL

 

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), a State Corporation under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure was established under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007 and charged with the mandate to manage, develop, rehabilitate and maintain national roads.

 

Pursuant to the provisions of the Roads Act, 2007, the Board of Directors invites applications from suitably qualified Kenyan citizens who wish to be considered for the position of Director General, Kenya National Highways Authority.

 

Job Summary- The Director General is the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority and is responsible to the Board of Directors for the broad responsibilities of the implementation of the Authority’s strategic goals and the management of its resources; including giving direction and leadership to the achievement of KeNHA’s mission, the development of its strategy and the attainment of its annual goals and objectives.

 

Job Specifications - For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:-

  1. Be a Kenyan citizen
  2. Served in the grade of General Manager (Roads) or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public or Private Sector for a minimum period of three years.
  3. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  4. Be a Member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK).
  5. Knowledge of public procurement systems and processes as used by the Government of Kenya, multilateral and bilateral development partners.
  6. Be Proficient in MS Office suite and relevant industry computer applications.
  7. General administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of civil engineering programs.

Terms of Service and Remuneration- The successful Candidate will serve on a three years’ contract, renewable once subject to satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets and outcomes. The salary and other benefits attached to this position will be as determined by the Board guided by the State Corporations and Advisory Committee in consultation with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

Detailed Job Description

 

DIRECTOR GENERAL, KeNHA GRADE 10

 (a)Job Summary

 

The Director General is the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority and is responsible to the Board of Directors for the broad responsibilities of the implementation of the Authority’s strategic goals and the management of its resources; including giving direction and leadership to the achievement of KeNHA’s mission, the development of its strategy and the attainment of its annual goals and objectives.

 (b)Key Responsibilities

 Specific duties and responsibilities entail the following, among others:-

  1. Providing strategic leadership in accordance with the mandate of the Authority as stipulated in the Roads Act.
  2. Formulating, implementing and reviewing the Strategic Plan, business plan and annual plan of the Authority.
  3. Coordinating the operations and administrative functions of the Authority.
  4. Implementing the policies and programs of the Authority and reporting thereon to the Board.
  5. Ensuring proper management of funds and property of the Authority.
  6. Management and administration of the staff of the Authority.
  7. Developing operations plans and programs for achieving the Authority's objectives; Co-operating with lead agencies and organizations locally and globally in the Road Sub-sector.
  8. Developing economic, efficient and cost effective internal management structure.
  1. Ensuring implementation and fulfillment of the policies and agreed objectives, performance targets and service standards of the Authority.
  2. Providing advice as required on all matters within the Authority's responsibility.
  3. Performing any other duty necessary as stipulated in the Kenya Roads Act, 2007. 

(c)Job Specifications

 

 For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:-

  1. Be a Kenyan citizen
  2. Served in the grade of General Manager (Roads) or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public or Private Sector for a minimum period of three years.
  3. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  4. Current valid annual Practicing License from the Engineers Board of Kenya with at least fifteen (15) years’ post registration experience in the field of highway engineering.
  5. Knowledge in planning, design, construction and maintenance of roads.
  6. Knowledge of public procurement systems and processes as used by the Government of Kenya, multilateral and bilateral development partners.
  7. Be Proficient in MS Office suite and relevant industry computer applications.
  8. General administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of civil engineering programs.
